This was a wonderful read and a brilliant introduction to the Greek myths. If you are a fan of Stephen Fry you are in for a treat! He manages to pack in a multitude of myths within the pages of this book. His personality shines through his writing style whereby you almost feel as if he is in the room with you as you are reading.

Plot

Although I am fascinated by the Greek myths, I have not read many books about them. This is a great book if you are new to mythology or if you want a refresher. Fry has collated a wonderful set of some of the best myths, told in his characteristically witty, humourous style! (1 Star)

Setting

Since the focus is on retelling many myths, there is not as much detail put into describing the settings of where they take place. The descriptions he uses are brilliant but there are not a great deal of them. (0.5 Star)

Characters

Instead of delving in depth into a few myths, Fry briefly retells the stories of many myths. While this gave me a great introduction to the stories of many gods, goddesses, titans, titanesses, kings, queens and mortals I found it was very difficult to remember all of the names along with the myths associated with each one. (0.5 Star)

Writing Style

I love Fry’s easy to read language. The manner in which he writes and the dialogue used literally make you laugh out loud. (1 Star)

Overall Opinion

I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about the Greeks and their ancient myths. It is a wonderful retelling, written in an engaging, relatable way. (1 Star)
